While both my boys are at 7lbs and just barely out of the breed spec, I never intended to breed or show them. The added weight is actually a bit better as I had some tiny girls (2.5 and 3.5lbs) and their care was much different. For longer than I can remember, I have always dreamed of having a little mini dog to love. Where we got our most loving goofy boy Martin (now Mercury). At the time we had two seniors and wanted to add a little loving bundle of joy to the family. When one of our seniors passed he was very affectionate to our other. The love and comfort he gave her was exactly what she needed. After a couple of years we decided on adopting our second boy Yule (now Comet) in winter of 2023. Although he seemed shy at first it took him no time to start playing with Mercury. This summer we went to the beach and she loved going for long hikes by the water and also loved swimming! She's very curious and so she follows me everywhere like a little shadow, which I like because she's good company. When we go outside she has very nice manners, she doesn't pull on the leash, she never barks, and she goes wherever I want to go. She weighs only 5 lbs. and so all the neighborhood children think she's a puppy and they come running and are all excited every time they see her. She amazes me when they approach her because she sits very quietly while they pet her and once one of the little girls even kisses the top of her head. Recently I discovered that she actually likes to run when we're outside, it's really cute because the more excited she gets the faster she runs! One thing that really surprises me is how much she can eat (if I were to let her) and how fast!!! It seems this is not unusual with chihuahuas. Getting used to her size was a bit of a challenge, if you step on her you could crush her toes they're so tiny, if you drop something and it hit her head....if a door slams and she gets hit by it.....But, with time I adapted and all is good.
